Essential Walking Tips
Wear Sport Shoes
The lanes are uneven and narrow. Comfortable, closed sport shoes are essential. No heels, no sandals.
Start Early
5 AM in summers, 6 AM in winters. The lanes are peaceful, the light is magical, and you'll see authentic daily life.
Carry Light
Phone, water bottle, and small cash only. Leave bags at the hotel. The narrow lanes don't accommodate large backpacks.
Stay Hydrated
Carry water, especially in summers. Your guide will plan chai and lassi breaks to keep energy levels up throughout the walk.
Photography
The lanes are incredibly photogenic. Ask before photographing people, especially at cremation ghats. Your guide will advise.
Expect the Unexpected
Cows, goats, motorcycles in 5-foot lanes — this is Varanasi. Stay alert, follow your guide, and embrace the beautiful chaos.
